The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is threatening fines and legal action
against cherry growers for publicizing peer-reviewed scientific studies
about the health benefits of cherries. This is a violation of the First
Amendment, a threat to public health, and a back-door attempt to benefit
politically influential drug manufacturers at the expense of fruit growers.
Fortunately, there is a bill in Congress that will stop the FDA from
censoring scientific information that could save people's lives. We need to
support this bill. Click here <http://action.downsizedc.org/wyc.php?cid=41>
to send a message to Congress urging them to pass the Health Freedom
Protection Act.

I don't see how it's censorship to keep companies from making
false claims about their products. Scientific studies up the
ass, until they have been verified by the FDA they have no
right to claim cherries cure cancer.

TV is already flooded with "natural" products making the most
absurd health claims. Magic herbal pills that cure impotence
and baldness, and the FDA is powerless to stop it and the FTC
refuses to. If I grew lettuce I could fund a study that of
course discovers lettuce cures cancer and baldness, but that
doesn't mean I have a right to make such claims until the
government has verified it.

If you expect the FDA to save you from harm, you must think the DEA can
keep drugs from the market, Homeland Security can secure you from
terrorists, Social Security will secure your old age, and the Trust Fund
can be trusted.

If the claims were false it would be a matter for whoever it is deals
with
false advertising. In fact all the growers wanted to do was publicise
scientific
findings, that is say that scientists have published peer-reviewed
papers saying
something. This is not a false claim.

Actually you have the right to claim anything you want provided it
isn't deceptive and
not being verified by the FDA is not evidence that something is
deceptive.

The FTC! That's who regulates false advertising! Thanks for that!
So your beef is
that people are saying things in their ads that the responsible
government authority
doesn't mind them saying. Not sure how that's a crime.

And could you get it peer-reviewed and published? Do you know what
being peer-
reveiwed and published means?
